Abstract: Brain storm optimization algorithm (BSO) is one of swarm intelligence algorithms, which was introduced in 2011. This talk is about BSO and consists of the following parts. First, one of human being problem solving skills, that is, the brainstorming process, is introduced; then the abstracting and modeling of the brainstorming process is discussed in the forms of block diagrams, followed the derivation from the brainstorming process to the brain storm optimization algorithm; Finally, presented are new advances on BSO such as modified BSOs, BSO’s applications, and multi-objective brain storm optimization algorithms.
Bio: Yuhui Shi received the Ph.D. degree in electronic engineering from Southeast University, Nanjing, China, in 1992. He is currently a Professor with the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University, Suzhou, China. His current research interests include computational intelligence techniques (including swarm intelligence) and their applications. Dr. Shi is the Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Swarm Intelligence Research and an Associate Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Evolutionary Computation.
